Healthy Body Tip 1: Energy In vs. Energy Out

It’s all about ENERGY IN versus ENERGY OUT.  If an individual wants to lose weight, the amount of energy in (food) they consume, must be LESS than the amount of energy the body uses (through exercise or metabolic processes).   So really its simple…. move more!!  And look at decreasing your portion sizes.  But ALWAYS allow yourself the things you love (More on that further down!).

Healthy Body Tip 2: Food and Movement

Remember, getting the body and health that you’ve always wanted is 80% of what you eat and 20% of what you do (exercise). So make sure that you are not ignoring either of these two important factors.

If you exercise well but eat terribly – your body will suffer. If you eat well but never exercise, you may be quite healthy, but your body will not be as fantastic as it could be!

Healthy Body Tip 3: Eat Cake!

Haha, okay well maybe that’s over simplifying it. What I mean is DO NOT cut out a specific food just because it is not healthy or it is fattening. If you cut something out and say “I’m not allowed this” – you’re more likely to binge on it.

What I suggest you do is allow all foods in moderation, with balanced, healthy food making up the largest part of your diet. There are NO good or bad foods – just appropriate or inappropriate quantities!

Healthy Body Tip 4: Eat Two Thirds ‘From The Ground’

For a super healthy body, make sure that two thirds of what you eat ‘comes from the ground’ by that I mean veggies, fruits, nuts, etc. The other 1/3 can come from “Other Stuff” – Animals, processed food, treats etc.

You will feel amazing when you are eating two thirds fresh fruit and veggies – after doing this for a while you’ll wonder how you ever lived any other way!

Healthy Body Tip 5: Treat Yourself Every Day!

Eat one small piece of your favorite thing everyday to avoid deprivation, or choose one day a week that you allow yourself whatever you like, but be reasonable!

Healthy Body Tip 6: Eat Good Fats

I find it’s best to stick to mono-saturated fats such as nuts, avocado, seeds, virgin olive oil and fish oils. These are healthy fats that make your body work optimally!

Cut down on those nasty saturated and poly-unsaturated fats (refined vegetable oils like Canola, sunflower, etc) and try not to overdo animal fats such as red meat, eggs, cheese and full cream milk.

Healthy Body Tip 7: Eat Often!

Gone are the days of starvation diets and 3 skimpy meals throughout the day! People who are serious about getting fit and sexy will eat about 6 small meals spaced throughout the day – rather than 3 large main meals.

Remember – breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Eating a good breakfast is like putting a log on your metabolic fire… SO never skip this important meal!

Healthy Body Tip 8: Drink The Right Amount Of Water For Your Body

You should try to drink 1 litre for every 25 kgs of body weight plus 1 litre for every hour of exercise. So, if you weigh 75 kg’s and do 30 mins of exercise a day – that’s 3.5 litres you should be drinking daily.

It’s also beneficial to try and drink 1/3 of your recommended fluid intake first thing in the morning. This will rehydrate you after a nights sleep and also help to detoxify your system.

To check you’re gettign enough water – check your pee! Long and clear is ideal.

If you think you couldn’t manage as much water as you are supposed to, then JUST TRY TO DRINK MORE THAN YOU ARE DRINKING NOW. You’ll soon get used to it and be able to add more in.

Healthy Body Tip 9: Move More

Move More – Take every opportunity to expend more energy.  Don’t drive if you can walk, don’t walk if you can run.  See activity as an opportunity rather than an inconvenience.  Remember, 70% of your daily calories are burnt by general moving!

Healthy Body Tip 10: Aim for 2-3 Workouts a Week

Aim for 2-3 hard and fast huffy puffy workouts a week.  Despite what you may have heard in the past: Long, slow and boring jogging is not the answer!!

 There really is no need to slog away for hours at the gym on the treadmill (YUK!) Move fast and hard, for a good 20-25 mins for best results.

Also, VERY IMPORTANT, lift weights at least once a week – aim to get stronger and build muscle (yes, even if you’re a lady) this will speed up your metabolism and give you move energy to enjoy life.
